A talk with Lil Datacrunch
Today, we’re excited to interview Lil DataCrunch, a rising music producer from Los Angeles who blends mumble rap, hip-hop, and alternative trap. His music explores themes like love, loneliness, and life in the digital age, giving voice to the emotions and challenges of his generation. As a teenager, he aims to inspire young people to be authentic and break societal expectations.
Let’s dive into our conversation with Lil DataCrunch about his journey, creative process, and what drives him as an artist:
AMW: How would you describe your sound and what inspires you to make music?
Lil DataCrunch: My sound is like puttin’ the digital world on a trap song. It’s a sonic trip through what we livin’ right now—chaos from social media, city noise, and emotions vibin’ between all that. I get inspired by the streets of L.A., tech, and just bein’ hyperconnected. All that makes me wanna put out what I’m feelin’, whether it’s love, loneliness, or whatever, with flows that sound like the algorithm glitchin’.
AMW: Who are your biggest musical influences, and how have they impacted your work?
Lil DataCrunch: My biggest influences? Gotta be Lil Yachty and Playboi Carti. They taught me you don’t gotta follow no rules to make somethin’ dope. I love how they play with melodies and that mumble vibe, and how they bring their own unique style to everything they do. They inspire me to take risks and do me, no matter what.
AMW: Was there a specific moment when you realized music was your calling?
Lil DataCrunch: Yeah, for sure. It was at this school talent show. I decided to hop on stage with a beat I made in my garage. When I saw the crowd’s reaction, I knew I had somethin’. From that moment on, I realized this wasn’t just a hobby—it’s what I wanna do with my life.

AMW: Do you have any specific message or theme you want to convey through your music?
Lil DataCrunch: My music talks about livin’ in the digital age and how it messes with us. I want people to feel connected to that vibe, the whole thing about bein’ plugged into everything but still feelin’ alone. I also talk about love, but in that modern way, where everything’s filtered through screens. My message is, it’s cool to feel lost sometimes, but there’s beauty in the chaos.
AMW: Your debut album Fake Sh*t sends a strong message about authenticity. What were you tryin’ to get across with this project?
Lil DataCrunch: This project is like a mirror to what we deal with every day. We livin’ in an era where everything looks perfect online, but behind that, there’s so much fake. With Fake Sh*t, I wanted to talk about the struggle of bein’ real in a world full of masks. Tracks like “No Room for Fakes” and “Paper Chasin’” are my way of sayin’ I ain’t got time for fake people. I’m all about keepin’ it real and vibin’ with folks who feel the same.
AMW: What does the track “Fake Sht” mean to you?
Lil DataCrunch: “Fake Sht” is basically my statement of freedom. I’m tired of all the fake stuff we see every day, from people to what society tells us to do. This track is me breakin’ free from all that. I want people who listen to feel empowered to be themselves, no matter what anyone else thinks.
AMW: What do you hope listeners take away from Fake Sh*t?
Lil DataCrunch: I want them to feel like they can relate. To know it’s okay to not fit into what people expect. This album is for the ones who are tired of all the fake stuff and just want somethin’ real. I hope it inspires people to be more authentic, to realize it’s cool to live your life the way you want, without followin’ other people’s rules.

AMW: What’s your creative process like? Do you have any rituals or routines when creating?
Lil DataCrunch: My process is pretty chill, but I always start with the beat. I spend hours in the studio, playin’ around with sounds. I love messin’ with weird samples and addin’ electronic textures. Sometimes, I’ll skate through the city to get inspired, record sounds from the streets, then flip ‘em into my tracks. I don’t have a set ritual, but my phone’s always ready to catch ideas.
AMW: You mix a lot of genres in your music. How do you decide what elements to include in a track?
Lil DataCrunch: It depends on my mood. Sometimes I want somethin’ dark, so I’ll bring in heavy trap beats. Other times, I’m feelin’ more melodic, so I’ll pull from pop or even lo-fi. I like blendin’ digital elements with urban rhythms, makin’ it sound fresh but familiar. The main thing is, each track’s gotta reflect where my head’s at.

AMW: How do you feel when you’re on stage or when you see the audience’s reaction to your music?
Lil DataCrunch: It’s like time slows down. Seein’ people vibin’ to what I made in my garage is crazy. It gives me this wild energy, like everything clicks. Watchin’ the crowd react to my lyrics or the beat just makes me wanna push harder.
AMW: What artists would you like to collaborate with in the future, whether from the past or present?
Lil DataCrunch: I’d love to collab with Lil Yachty or Destroy Lonely ‘cause I feel like they get music in a way that goes beyond the usual. And for sure, workin’ with someone like Travis Scott would be fire. He’s got this crazy vision, both sonically and visually.
AMW: How does your daily life or environment influence your music?
Lil DataCrunch: Everything I do in my day-to-day influences my music. From what I see in the streets of L.A. to what I’m scrollin’ through on social. Conversations I have, stuff I experience—it all ends up in my lyrics or the beats I make. Even my tech classes at school gave me ideas on how to mix AI with my sound.
AMW: When you’re not workin’ on music, what do you like to do to relax?
Lil DataCrunch: I like to skate around the city to clear my head. I’m also into tech, so I mess around with AI projects, programming little things, or seein’ how I can use tech to flip my sound. And of course, chillin’ with my fam and my brothers—that always helps me relax.
AMW: What impact do you hope to have on the music industry and your listeners?
Lil DataCrunch: I wanna change how music and tech come together, create somethin’ that’s not just heard but felt differently. I want my music to be like a soundtrack for this generation, for all of us livin’ between the digital and the real. I want my listeners to know they’re not alone, that there’s beauty even in the disconnect.
AMW: What advice would you give to someone just starting in music and wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Lil DataCrunch: My advice is, don’t try to fit in a box. Make the music that comes from you, the kinda stuff that shows who you are, even if it sounds different. Don’t be afraid to experiment and mess up—that’s where the magic happens. Stay true to yourself and keep learning, especially about tech. That’s gonna change the game.
To wrap things up, Lil DataCrunch leaves us with a powerful reminder: staying true to yourself is the key to breaking boundaries and making an impact in a world that’s constantly evolving. We look forward to seeing where his journey takes him next
